“Five Sons Achieve Success” is a traditional Chinese blessing associated with educational distinction, family prosperity, and hopes for future generations. The five tadpoles offer a playful interpretation of the saying: the Chinese word for tadpole evokes the sound of the character “ke” in the phrase “deng ke,” or succeeding in scholarly examinations.
